Our Story

ORO House is a family run non-profit. Over the years one of the ways we have grown together as a family is through gardening. As we’ve experienced housing changes, income insecurity, trauma, and so much more we have had to find ways to make gardening much more accessible for our family. In Tucson, we’ve been able to build community and build a sustainable growing practice. Now we’re working to share that information with other BIPOC folks (and friends) of our community. Our goal is to help you help yourself. To learn how to utilize the resources readily available to you. And to develop a relationship with the land that feels sustainable.

Our focus is on native plants, plants specific to African Americans and others of the diaspora, and the fiber arts.

We offer produce and plant based products at our local farmers' market, which primarily supports low income individuals and families. We offer free educational opportunities to the community where we share how to utilize the plants people grow (for food, medicine, and other activities) and how to save their seeds for future generations (of plants and people).

We envision a future where every community is a sovereign source of its own nourishment, resilience, and cultural vitality- rooted in seed saving traditions, plants adapted to a changing climate, and flowering with creativity.
